Insuring Third Party Cars

by Ajeet Khurana
Motor insurance is a good option for car owners of all backgrounds My own car is very dear to me because I spent a significant portion of my income when trying to buy it. So I made a firm decision to get the very best in insurance for my car. One never knows when some kind of an accident might take place and the vehicle may have to be repaired.
However, despite my interest in cars, I used to think that motor insurance was related to merely the vehicles that we ourselves drove. However, in these in this day and age, when even household pets are not safe from the clutches of insurance, why should other people's cars be disregarded either?
I managed to find out about comprehensive car insurance a few days ago when I was surfing the world of cyber space looking for some good car insurance quotes. Now, who would think that comprehensive car insurance covered the cars that bumped into ours as well? Apparently, it does. Therefore, if tomorrow, some crazy driver rams his headlights into your taillights; your insurance can provide enough to cover the damage done to the offending car as well.
Now isn't that a little hard to gulp down? After all, if it is the other guy's fault, why should my insurance company look after the damage to his vehicle? But that is the way some comprehensive car insurance packages work. Imagine, if you are a driver with little experience, and you somehow ram in to the car ahead of you, and that car has this kind of insurance, you will come home from the accident with your bank balance safe and sound.
Personally, I am not sure that I would like to provide for the damage done to another's vehicle by his own rash or careless driving. However, if I am the rash or careless driver, it would be a big burden off my chest when I am in for major repair work, and my insurance company steps in to provide for it.
The plan is an interesting one. It is not something that would really have occurred to me. Perhaps that is because I am loath to pay for somebody else's recklessness. But then insurance companies want to add value to their business. The only way to get increasingly growing numbers of customers is to come up with such gimmicky methods that will get people thinking and talking.
If you are on the lookout for some comprehensive car insurance for your car, just check out the various offers on the online world. If the idea of paying for third party cars does not appear to be a sensible idea to you, settle for the old-fashioned car insurance plans instead.

Auto Insurance – Which Type Is Right For You

Auto insurance is a form of insurance available to consumers who own cars, trucks and other vehicles. It covers the insured party against the risks involved in owning or driving a vehicle. This may be a car accident, damage caused to other cars or property, loss to passengers in your car, and damage to your car itself
Optional Covers
There are different levels of insurance available depending on what risks you wants to cover. You can cover against the costs of repairing your vehicle after an accident. You can cover the cost of purchasing a new car should yours be stolen or damaged beyond repair. These are optional covers. Liability insurance on the other hand is compulsory for all drivers. This will cover the risk of claims being made against you as the driver or owner of the vehicle that caused damage to the property of another, the vehicle of another, for medical expenses of others injured as a result of an accident, including passengers in your car. If you have liability insurance, it will only cover these risks. If you have comprehensive insurance it will cover also the risks to yourself and your own vehicle.
GAP Insurance
However, even comprehensive insurance will not fully cover your risks. First of all there is the issue that, as soon as you buy a new car, its price suddenly drops significantly because it is no longer new. It is used. So if you were to destroy your car the day after buying it, the insurance company would likely assess the value as something less than what you paid for it, even though you may still owe a good deal more than that in payments and financing. To cover the chances of this happening, so called GAP insurance was developed. This covers the difference in the actual value of your car, and the amount you still owe in payments. The growth of vehicle leasing has also led to GAP insurance becoming more important.
Extra Cover
In the US, the insurance policy will generally cover the owner of the vehicle and any others who drive the vehicle so long as they do not live at the same address. For those living at the same address, you should have them specifically added to your insurance policy for an extra fee. This means that if you crash someone else’s car, while driving it with their permission, you will be covered by their policy, not your own. Non-owner policies are available to cover you on other people’s cars but these will only be available if you do not own your own car.

Car Insurance - California, Do You Have Auto Coverage?

By: Krista Farmer
Trying to find an alternate route to work when nearly 280,000 other commuters are scrambling to find their way into the city can definitely increase the odds of getting involved in a fender-bender. San Francisco Bay area interstate travelers will be the first to tell you that you cannot predict accidents or catastrophes. Whether you are involved in a natural disaster, auto accident or other catastrophe, insurance plays an important role in securing your funds for the future. Californian or not, it's always important to see what auto insurance coverage your state suggests or requires. There's a long stretch of road between Redding and San Diego, California - which means many opportunities for unexpected auto accidents to occur. The Bay Bridge between Oakland and San Francisco, for example, is a hotbed of confusion and congestion that travelers are trying to navigate and conquer. Between the excitement of summer and trying to secure your vacation plans, preparing for an auto disaster is probably the last thing on your mind. But the summer heat and unexpected bumps in the road can both wreak havoc on your auto and put you in jeopardy if you're not prepared. If something happens while you're driving down that long California interstate, are you covered? Let's sift through your car insurance policy to consider your options:What coverages are included in an auto insurance package? When you purchase auto insurance, you usually have several options - you can purchase medical, liability, property and under/uninsured motorist coverage. Medical coverage in an auto insurance package will take care of treating injuries to those in the policyholder's automobile. Medical coverage will be provided if the person is a passenger or hit as a pedestrian. Liability is your financial responsibility to someone for damage you cause - whether the damage is to another person or to someone's property. When you purchase liability coverage, the insurance company agrees to defend you in court and/or reimburse the other party for damages you cause. California state laws require motorists to purchase the following liability insurance amounts. $15,000 - bodily injury liability for one person injured in an accident$30,000 - bodily injury liability for all injuries in one accident$5,000 - property damage liability for one accidentCovering property damage includes comprehensive and collision insurance. Comprehensive coverage insures accidental damage to the auto including fire, wind, sleet, theft, vandalism and similar damages.Collision coverage reimburses for damage caused by colliding with another object, regardless of who or what is at fault. What happens if the person that hits you is uninsured or does not have proper coverage to take care of your entire loss? Purchasing uninsured and/or underinsured motorist coverage will cover both of those situations. If you have not glanced through your auto insurance policy in awhile, it's time to consider reviewing it. The warm summer weather means your air conditioning will be running longer and your engine will be working harder. It's important to take time right now and make sure you will be covered if you find yourself stuck on that long stretch of California road between Redding and San Diego. *Please note that this article is not a professional consultation. Car Insurance: A Real Time Overview

by Robin Boddy
Car insurance is something all drivers must have, but know so little about. Full coverage car insurance is a combination of liability insurance, collision coverage and comprehensive coverage. Full coverage car insurance is quite expensive and worth every penny in the case of an accident. A car owner who buys full coverage car insurance is protected against anything that can possibly go wrong regarding damages to their car, damages caused by their car or in case it is stolen. Gap car insurance is extremely important when it comes to extra insurance for your vehicle. The reason gap car insurance is so important to car buyers, is because the standard motor and accident insurance policies generally only cover the car for its current market value.
With gasoline prices about 25 percent higher nationwide than a year ago, acquiring cheap car insurance is more vital now than ever. Cheap car insurance is available online, but just be sure you're getting the "cheap" that will save you money, not give you headaches. Because, if you want to get the best coverage for your buck, shopping smart for your car insurance is the way to do it. And cheap car insurance is hard to come by--but it is attainable. However, cheap car insurance is not so cheap when the insurance company is difficult to deal with, is not responsive to your needs, and doesn't pay fairly. The next step in finding cheap car insurance is to comparison shop.
Buying car insurance online is extremely easy. Many experts agree that often consumers pay more for their car insurance policies due to the lack of awareness towards the facilities of car insurance online. Insurance companies and brokers provide free online rate quotes that allow you to easily compare costs and coverage. Researching car insurance online saves not only time but it also saves money and energy in searching various car insurances. The best thing about car insurance online is that you can get innumerable car insurance quotes in a click of mouse. By applying online you can get multiple free car insurance quotes from one application.
Insurance quotes and insurance coverage vary from different auto insurance companies. Quotes are easy and quick to obtain.Insurance rates depend on the type of car you buy. Safe vehicles get cheaper car insurance quotes than vehicles that are considered unsafe, and safety includes seatbelts, air bags, and child proof locks. The surest way to get a cheap car insurance quote when you buy a new car is to make sure your new car is as safe as possible; undoubtedly, the safety features of your new car will affect your decision anyway. You just have to keep that cheap car insurance quote in mind as you are shopping for your new car. Insurance payments are part of your monthly cost of ownership
Coverage changes by state; a regular online auto insurance plan usually includes those that provide insurance for injuries and damage that a motorist causes someone else, the motorist`s injuries, injuries and also damages caused by un-insured or under-insured motorists and also damage to or robbery of the car(s). Take a little time to see and read the coverage that each company offers because it can save you a substantial amount of money in the time that you have to make a claim. A little lift of a finger can give you the list of several highly rated car insurance companies, including both the monthly premiums and the coverage. If you have a newer automobile, however, you'll want to protect your investment and consider purchasing collision and comprehensive coverage. Your auto insurance generally provides property, liability and medical coverage: Property coverage pays for damage or theft of your car. Liability coverage pays for your legal responsibility to others for bodily injury or property damage. Medical coverage pays for the cost of treating injuries, rehabilitation and sometimes lost wages and funeral expenses. Compare the quotes from each auto insurance company for the one that offers you the best coverage at the most affordable rate.

Shop for Car Insurance Around Town or From Your House

Provided By: CarInsurance.com
You are looking for new car insurance. You just bought a car or you are ready to change insurance companies for whatever reason. Instead of taking the first quote you get, learn to shop around for your car insurance.
There is increased competition between insurance agencies these days. They have ads on TV, ads on the radio, billboards, and large print ads. Competition is good it allows you to have more choices when finding a new insurance company to buy a policy from. To shop around for insurance you can search by driving around visiting agents, calling an auto insurance agent or using the Internet.
Driving around to insurance agencies seems to be a bit silly unless you live in a small town where they all are situated on the same street. Most of us do not live in that rural of an area so it would take a lot of time, and even worse gas, to visit actual brick and mortar auto insurance agencies. Not to say there is not value in seeing the office and meeting the agent if this is your method.
Once you have gone to visit agencies and have formed an opinion or decided to skip method it is time to move onto the next phase of shopping. The next way in which to shop for auto insurance is by calling insurance companies on the phone. When you do this you might be calling a specific insurance agent in your neighborhood or a call center that takes care of a large insurance company.
If you are calling a specific agent you will be able to get a feel for the person you will most likely be dealing with for years to come. It can be nice to get an agent that you can build a good rapport so that you can easily ask insurance questions or talk about claims with him or her. It is not bad to call into a call center either. You can get a good rapport with the representative there as well. If you get their name and extension you can try to talk to that same person each time you have a question.
In person or on the phone, agents should be able to explain the different types of coverage and quote you an insurance rate. To truly compare prices you need to compare apples to apples so that means make sure you are getting quoted for the same type of insurance with the same limits with whoever you contact. This also holds true for when shopping for a car insurance quote online.
Just a few years ago there were very hardly any insurance companies that could give you an auto insurance quote online. As technology advances so do the insurance offerings online. The best part about requesting an insurance quote online is that you can take your time. Insurance companies need specific information from you to give you an accurate quote. By getting a rate online you can take as much time as you need to find and fill in this information. You can search through your house for certain pieces of information. You cannot do this if you went into an insurance agency or were talking to someone on the telephone.
A lot of online insurance raters are not specific to one insurance company. This allows you to get a comparison of many different insurance company’s quotes by inputting your information only once. This can save you a lot of time and effort. www.carinsurance.com is a great example of an online insurance marketplace. You can quickly and easily get an auto insurance quote for all 50 states.
When shopping for car insurance you will usually getting a quote from either visiting an insurance agency, calling around for a quote or logging on to the Internet to request a quote. There is no wrong way to shop for auto insurance, just easier ways. Going online for an insurance quote can allow you to get a snapshot comparison of multiple insurance companies’ rates. How could shopping get any easier than that.

10 Ways to Save Big on Auto Insurance.

Auto insurance can make a big hole in your pocket. Insurance premiums vary hugely between companies, agencies or agents, brokers, and of course the make of the car you own and your credit rating. To pay lower insurance you must:
1. Always maintain a good driving record.
2. Never accept the first estimate you receive. Be wise and check comparisons of different insurance providers at your state insurance department website or phone them. Their addresses and contact numbers can be accessed from http://www.consumeraction.gov/insurance.shtml the consumer action website. Be sure to get competitive quotes from different insurance providers. Contact providers that are strongly recommended by people you know well. Keep your peace of mind by checking the financial stability of the companies with rating companies like A.M. Best (http://www.ambest.com/) as well as in forums and blogs.

3. Complete a market survey well before you select a car make and make a comparative table of insurance and other hidden costs. Find out which features increase insurance premiums and which ones reduce premiums. For example if parts of a certain make are hard to find or expensive such cars will have huge insurance premiums, similarly installation of anti-theft devices or an extra brake system lowers insurance premiums. Many questions are answered by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety at http://www.iihs.org/.
4. Choose to have higher deductibles this will reduce the burden by at least 15-25%. But look at your finances first and determine whether you can set aside US$ 200-US$1000 periodically to create an emergency vehicle fund.
5. Consider availing the insurance from the same company that has you covered for home, accident, or life. Many companies offer concessions to clients who have more than one kind of policy. Known as a multi-policy discount this could benefit you.
6. Most policies are based on your personal credit record. Having an unshakeable credit history can lower costs. Pay bills on time, don’t avail too many loans, and be sure that credit balances are as low as possible.
7. Avoid duplicating medical coverage. Find out whether eliminating medical cover in auto insurance will reduce your premiums or the personal injury protection costs. In some places the reduction is as much as 40%. So, if you have adequate health insurance you could weigh the pros and cons of eliminating this in auto insurance.

8. Find out if insurance premiums are dependant on where you stay. Sometimes staying in a rural community or suburbs as against the city center could save you a bundle.
9. Take advantages of discounts like low risk career, low mileage, taking public transport to work, car pooling, no violations or accidents, taking defensive driving courses, following safety rules and regulations, or having a child who studies far away.
10. Use the reductions offered for insuring more than one car belonging to the family. Many companies have special offers for corporate organizations, club members, professional groups, alumni groups, or clubs.
Make time to make a big saving. Check through all the parameters and mark areas where a saving can be made. The market is competitive and you can be the beneficiary.

Choosing a Car Insurance Company.

These days, you can’t go five minutes while watching television without seeing the little lizard that is the mascot of you-know-who’s insurance company. On top of that, there are so many different types of insurance companies that it makes it nearly impossible to decide which is the best type of coverage for you. Everywhere you look you can see and hear about insurance companies: on the radio while driving down the road, during the commercial of your favorite show on Monday night, and even online, where each company is boasting that it has the lowest rates.

So, what do you do? How do you narrow it down? First, ask around. Start by questioning your friends or family members about where they go for insurance, how much the rates are, and how intensively the agent covers the important details. Make a list of the insurance company’s names and contact information and grab a notebook to keep your own records of the premiums and deductibles.
Next, go to where you can get coverage: an agent in your neighborhood an insurance company that is online and has an 800 number. Many people recommend going directly to an agent instead of dealing with a direct market company because they are more thorough in configuring what type of coverage is best for which person or family.
The bonus to getting car insurance through a direct market company is the convenience, which is quite possibly the reason it’s so popular. Many insurance companies offer free quotes for coverage that a person can get in a short phone call or by spending a few minutes on the Internet typing in important information. Coverage can often be purchased online, and some insurance companies provide rate quotes for a handful of other insurance providers at the same time to give clients more options and comparison.
To find an agent in your neighborhood, check the phone book’s yellow pages or ask your friends and neighbors about local agents with good reputations. Avoid insurance providers who ask you to buy unnecessary coverage. With an agent, you get to work one-one-one with a certified insurance consultant who will try to find the best possible coverage to suit your needs at your budget.

Also with an agent, when you have a claim to file you are able to deal directly with your agent about that claim. Basically, if there are any problems that develop, you have a person to go to instead of just calling a 1-800 number or logging onto a website.
To save money when buying car insurance, make sure to shop around and get as many insurance quotes as you can from as many different providers as possible. Second, get the highest deductible that you feel comfortable with, because the higher the deductible, the lower your premium and monthly payments will be. Many insurance companies offer multicar discounts, better rates for good drivers, and discounts for safety features like air bags, so that's something else to keep in mind.

Compare Car Insurance Rates The Easy Way

by insurancehelp101
In the days prior to the Internet, you had to call a number of insurance agents and answer a ton of questions in order to get enough quotes to get a cheap rate. Now, thanks to the Internet, comparing car insurance rates is a piece of cake.
Because rates can vary by $1,000 or more from one company to another, you need to go to an insurance comparison website where you can get quotes from a number of car insurance companies.
Not only can you get multiple rate quotes from these sites, some of these sites offer money-saving tips in their "Articles" section, and provide an online chat feature and toll-free telephone service so you can get answers to your questions from an insurance expert. (See link below.)
Get Car Insurance Discounts
In order to get your car insurance quotes, you'll need to fill out a simple questionnaire where you can list the all discounts and deductibles you want. Here's how to save the most money on your insurance:
Raise your deductible - Depending on how high you raise it this can save you 30% to 50% on your car insurance premium.
Consolidate your insurance - Buying your car and homeowners insurance with the same company will save you up to 15% on your premium.
Install security devices - Outfitting your car with a burglar alarm or other theft-prevention devices can get you a good-sized discount.
Eliminate unneeded coverage - Consider eliminating your comprehensive and collision coverage if your car is more than five years old, or if the cost of your annual premium is the same as the value of your car.
Compare Car Insurance Companies
Once you've chosen the best quote, you'll want to make sure the company is reliable and will pay your claims. Here are three websites that will help you decide:
1. Your state's department of insurance website will show you how many complaints have been lodged against an insurance company.
2. J.D. Power and Associate's website (jdpower.com) will give you consumer ratings.
3. The A.M. Best (ambest.com) website will give you a company's financial and credit ratings.
By taking these extra steps, you'll know that you're not only getting the best rate, but that you're getting a reliable company.

5 Steps To Cheap Car Insurance Premiums

by Carmoon
Step 1 - Cut the Insurer's Risk The easiest way to cut your car insurance premiums is to reduce the insurer's risk and accept a higher voluntary excess. An insurer's standard excess may be 100 but if you meet the first 250 of any claim, you'll see a reduction in your premium. This is because you're taking on more of the risk so you get a discount. But it's a gamble, be aware that you might have to meet the cost of a broken window after an attempted theft, then a bill for repairing bodywork damage after a car park crunch.

Step 2 - Security Fitting security devices can also result in cheaper car insurance premiums. All major insurers insist on Thatcham rated security equipment, usually a minimum of an alarm. If you live in a high-risk area for car crime, it makes sense to fit extra security. It saves you money when your insurance renewal is due and gives you extra peace of mind.

Step 3 - Annual Mileage If your annual mileage is 5,000 miles or less, ask insurers if they offer discounts for agreed mileage restrictions.

Step 4 - Named Drivers Adding a named driver to your policy can increase or reduce your premiums depending upon the named drivers age, sex and driving record. Adding a young driver will certainly increase your premiums, particularly with a limited or poor driving record. However, adding a driver over 30 years old with a long and clean driving record can cut premiums, particularly if the named driver is female!

Step 5 - Shop Around The biggest car insurance savings come from shopping around. This has been made much easier with the explosion of the internet. There can be massive differences between the lowest and highest car insurance quotes for exactly the same car and driver(s). Start off using good comparative online car insurance quote sites like Money supermarket and Screen trade, take their best quotes and go direct to the cheapest car insurance companies for more specific quotations.
