Auto Insurance For Teens Does Not Have to Cost So Much!

by Alejandro Bustos
Teens are known to cost their parents a lot of money. Prom dresses, cell phone bills, sporting camps, laptops, and that first car are just to name a few. Having the latest thing is imperative. Parents will be happy to know, however, that they can now purchase affordable auto insurance for their young driver, and it doesn't have to break their wallets! If you are that parent looking for an insurance policy for your new driver, this is great news.

First things first, you'll need to know where to look. Doing a simple search on the web will reveal a plethora of sites that will offer reasonable quotes for your inexperienced teenage driver. Because inexperienced drivers are considered to be at risk, many times, insurance companies will require you to pay higher premiums. You can get around this if you know where to look.

When you are looking for the policy that will best fit your needs, here are some things to consider;

1. Keep in mind that you may be able to add your teenager to your policy rather then purchasing a separate one for him. If you do this, or if it is possible with the type of plan you have, this will save you a lot of money.

2. Encourage your child to give a care about school. Often times, insurance companies will offer discounted monthly premiums to those who are making at least a B average whether the teen is in high school or college. Insurance companies have the idea that good students are better drivers.

3. Most of all, allow your teen to observe you driving. There is a lot that they can learn from watching you.

Now that you are armed with this knowledge, the next step is to go out and get the proper policy for your new teenage driver. Should you fail to do this, woe for you as there'll be a nightmare on your hands. Not only will your teenager cost you even more of a fortune than usual with the things they ask for, you'll look horrible as a parent for not making sure your child is in compliance with the law. Not to mention, it will not go well in the courts. To save yourself the trouble, it is a good idea to get your hands on quality and inexpensive auto insurance right away. It is possible.

Taking Steps To Get Cheap Auto Insurance

by JON ARNOLD
It's a well known fact that people procrastinate and put off things that they don't like to do and aren't required to do right now. One of the things involved with this procrastination is switching auto insurance companies. You probably know that if you did some comparison shopping to find cheap auto insurance, you almost certainly would be able to do so, so what is stopping you from starting the process?
With just a few phone calls and a few clicks online, you could quickly compare your current auto insurance policy to find out how it stacks up against the same coverage from other auto insurance companies. There is really nothing unpleasant about it. Maybe you don't want to disappoint the insurance sales agent that you've been with for years, but isn't it worth disappointing him if he has been overcharging you for years, and if you could save literally hundreds of dollars per year on your car insurance?

The reality of the matter is that auto insurance is a very competitive industry and all of them are doing what it takes to earn your business. In most cases, what it takes is having the best price for the best coverage.

But before you start clicking your mouse or dialing your phone, there are some things you need to be aware of. First of all, not all auto insurance policies are created equally, so you need to make sure that you are comparing apples to apples when you are comparing insurance quotes from multiple companies. What are the deductibles? You can set a different deductible amount for almost every type of coverage to keep your premiums as low as possible. For example, you can have $500 deductible on collision, $1000 deductible on theft, $1500 deductible on fire, and so on. Keep in mind that the lower the deductible, the more the insurance company is required to pay if you make a claim in that area, and therefore the higher your premiums will be.

Do you even need collision insurance? This is where a lot of people waste a lot of money. If you are driving an old clunker, it makes no sense to have collision insurance on it, since if it gets into an accident, chances are high that the cost to repair the car is going to be more than the cost of declaring it totaled and just paying you’re the fair market price for it. You can save a bundle by taking collision coverage off your policy, although if you are still making payments on the car or it is a lease car, you will almost certainly be required to carry collision insurance on it to protect the interests of the title holder.

Also compare the limits of liability for property damage and personal injury. Some "standard" limits might be $250,000 but if someone is severely injured, you know that with hospital costs these days, that limit can be reached in a heartbeat. So make sure that the limits are the same when comparing policies.

How to Find the Cheapest Auto Insurance Online

by Brian Stevens
There are a ton of companies offering cheap auto insurance, but how do you know it's really cheap? And how do you know the insurance company is reliable? Here's how to get the cheapest auto insurance online with a reliable company.

Comparison Shop

Finding the cheapest auto insurance online is a matter of comparing rates from different auto insurance companies. You can spend hours of your time calling local agencies or visiting insurance company websites to get auto insurance rate quotes, or you can spend a few minutes at an insurance comparison website where you can get multiple quotes from top companies.

All you have to do to get your quotes is fill out a simple questionnaire with your insurance information and the amount of auto insurance coverage you want, then wait to get your quotes.

The best insurance comparison sites feature a chat service that lets you get answers to your insurance questions from an insurance expert. They also have an Articles section where you can get money-saving tips and information. (See link below.)

Check Ratings

When you find an insurance company with the best rate, make sure you check it out to see if it's reliable and will provide you with good customer service.

You can check out a company's financial rating at A.M. Best's website - ambest.com. And you can check out a company's customer service rating at J.D. Power and Associate's website - jdpower.com.

Increase Your Deductible

The deductible is the amount of money you must pay before your insurance company will pay your claim. Make sure to get the highest deductible you can afford, because the higher you set your deductible, the cheaper your insurance premium will be.

For example, raising your insurance deductible from $250 to $500 could save you up to 30% on your premium, while raising it to $1,000 could save you up to 50%.

Ask for Discounts

Insurance companies offer numerous discounts. Some of these discounts include:

* Multiple policy discount for placing your homeowners or renters insurance and your auto insurance with the same insurance company.

* Safety and security discount for having burglar alarms, ant-theft devices, airbags, and anti-lock brakes.

* Low mileage discount for driving less miles than the average driver.

* Safe driver discount for having an accident-free driving record for three straight years.

* Senior discount for being over the age of 50.

Before you purchase your auto insurance, ask your insurer about all the discounts they offer and take advantage of all the ones you quality for.
